Animation Is Cool
I am lucky. I grew up watching Saturday cartoons and going to see animated Disney movies. To me there is an allure to all things animated. What fascinates me is the dedication, insane amount of meticulousness, and attention to detail animators must have. To think that it takes an entire days work (12 to 16 hours mind you) to get only a few seconds of "real time movement", and it will take years to create an entire movie short. Sounds to me like self flagellation, but I am happy to relish in the accomplishments of those who create these wondrous works of art.
I recently surfed into a blog that had a post about the 2008 Academy Awards Animated Shorts Nominees, and those shorts made me giddy. I hope these make you giddy too. (Oh boy! I got to use giddy twice. Okay, three times.)

Animation is a very time consuming process. Even with the computer animations. There is a lot of behind the scenes things that have to go into it as well. First you have to start with a drawing of your character, model it in 3D, rig the character so that it moves properly, texture your character, light the scene, model the scene, now you get to animate. well it doesnt really happen in that exact order but I think you get the point. the reason why we animators do what we do is because the end result is so rewarding to us!
