The Voice is Gone

You've heard him, but you may not know the name. Don LaFontaine, AKA, "The Voice of God" or "Thunder Throat", died September 1, 2008.

I have known about Mr. LaFontaine and his career for many years and have had a jealousy for his distinctive voice since I first heard him on a movie trailer. I've tried to mimic his voice, but it is at such a difficult register and there is a timbre that is impossible for me to recreate. All I know is that if I had his voice, I'd be doing what he did. Use it to the best of my ability.

He was remembered on many programs carried on North West Public Radio. Morning Edition, All Things Considered, On The Media, and Studio 360, oh and Wait Wait Don't Tell Me.

I don't have much to say, just that he will be missed and that there are many of us who aspire to be like him. Rest in peace.
